What is neuroshaping?

Neuroshaping is an application of the science of neuroplasticity.  It can be defined as the use of methods that have demonstrable and lasting impact on the brain (and the nervous system in general) with the purpose of increasing desired experiences, states or skills. These methods include low-tech approaches such as psychotherapy, hypnosis and meditation and high-tech approaches such as biofeedback and neurofeedback.

It is well-established that evidenced-based psychotherapies such as Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy are effective ways of changing thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, all of which are meditated by the brain. “Third Wave” Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT-3), along with strategies such as hypnosis and “focusing,” inform our approach to dealing with the issues you may present.

Hypnosis can calm the mind and body to establish pathways to the subconscious mind opening it to suggestions based on the goals that you set. In the end, all hypnosis is self-hypnosis and depends on your trust and cooperation.

Meditation, biofeedback and neurofeedback form the core of our approach to neuroshaping.

Meditation is a family of practices that affect mind and body through the cultivation of specific types of attention. Meditation is a low-tech approach to neuroshaping that requires no equipment and can be practiced anywhere and at any time and can generalize 24/7.  Dr. McAllister has studied in different meditation traditions and has developed an accessible approach to meditation that is detailed in his book, The Attentive Mind Workbook:  Self-healing through meditation.

Biofeedback and neurofeedback are technologies that provide a window into what is going on in the body and the mind. By using the information that these technologies provide, it is possible to enhance self-awareness and to affect basic functions once thought to be outside of conscious control. These empowering technologies have documented benefits in treating a variety of physical and mental problems.  In addition to their role as therapeutic modalities, biofeedback and neurofeedback have historically been used to optimize functioning and as adjuncts to meditation. The relationship of meditation to these technologies, particularly neurofeedback, is explored in depth on the blog, neuroshaping.net

We invite you to explore with us the possibilities that these low-tech and high-tech approaches create for greater self-understanding and enhanced self-regulation, improved focus, and greater equanimity. Our Neuroshaping Services provide access to these innovative forms of treatment.

We are once again providing in-person services for biofeedback and neurofeedback. We use air sanitization throughout our offices and follow all public health guidelines. Our staff members are fully vaccinated and wear N95 masks to protect clients. We carefully screen all clients to ensure the safety of our staff and other clients.
